Are you looking for great ideas to help your school be even better? Then let me introduce you to the outstanding headteachers who are speaking at Outstanding Against the Odds this year.
All of their schools are in challenging contexts and all have recently achieved outstanding across the board. They have lots of great ideas to share, as well as their school’s stories.
Come and meet Lucy Mastrocola, Coombe Hill Junior School (achieved outstanding Oct 2023) and learn about their exceptional personal development and how they enable children to lead the school – in fact the children think they are in charge of the school! From Class Councils and Parliament to Mental Health Ambassadors and Digital Leaders and from the Shakespeare project to a wide range of opportunities which allow children to develop their talents and interests it’s clear that children grow and excel in all aspects of their learning.
Willow Brook Primary School’s Executive Head, Justin Creasey & Head of School, Lucie Dawn (Outstanding in 2017 and again in 2023) will share strategies for success with limited resources including recruitment and retention which are perennial concerns for educational institutions, yet are a particular strength for Willow Brook.
David Sammels, Mayflower Academy (achieved third outstanding in December 2023 – yes, three times outstanding!). How does a school keep delivering excellence, over time, despite national challenges, and local challenging circumstances? David will be sharing how Mayflower has.
Dawn Titus, St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Primary School (achieved their second outstanding in January 2024). Within a context of deprivation and gang culture, Dawn transformed this battlefield into an outstanding garden for their children, one so great it is in the top 2% of schools nationally and ranks 21st in The Times and Sunday Times’ best state primary schools list for 2024.
Andrea Parker is the Executive Headteacher of a federation of 3 London primary schools across Lambeth, 2 of which have recently been given the outstanding judgement and the third is close to it. How has Andrea led nearly 3 schools to outstanding? By creating a “home-grown” and very high performing team.
