It’s good to follow up a difficult conversation in writing to:

  • Provide you both with a summary of what was said, which you can refer to if needed.
  • Have a paper trail in case you need to move into capability in future.

The main reason is the first one, however if things don’t improve you will be glad there is documentation of the support you put in place.
