Before the day

Information we need from you

Please email your trainer with the names and roles of those attending, no later than 3 weeks before your first training day.

Pre-coursework for all attendees

As an attendee, you’ll get more from the day if you do this one piece of pre-work:

  1. 2-3 weeks before the day attendees need to complete this form:
This asks you some questions about about a current difficult conversation you need to have, not one you’ve already had. The issue might be one you are already talking about but hasn’t been resolved or one you need to start a talking about.
  2. We recommend everyone gives us their hardest conversation because then we can help you most.

You don’t have to fill this in before the day, but it helps people focus on the conversation they need to have most of all.

What we need on the day

Online session:

  1. For the duration of the training try to find a space where you are not distracted.
  2. You don’t need to use headphones but can choose to use them if you prefer.
  3. Use separate devices during the training – you’ll get more from the session than if you share.
  4. If there are more than 6 of you on the programme, for the ‘Core skills for Successful Difficult Conversations’ session you will need two rooms and so be on separate devices.

In person sessions:

  • A room for the day where you won’t be disturbed.
  • Enough tables and chairs for everyone, set out as boardroom or horse shoe.
  • A flip chart stand and pad.
  • A projector to connect to our laptop (USB or HDMI connection).

What if a member of the team changes?
Let your trainer know and they will let you if it’s appropriate for them to join at this stage or a later stage.

What if I need to change a date?
This can affect the course and the impact we can make so we prefer if it you don’t. However, sometimes it is unavoidable. Please get in touch with your trainer and they will do what they can. We don’t like to charge cancellation fees if dates have to be moved, but sometimes we need to. You can see details of these charges at

We might need to charge for travel if we’ve booked tickets.

What if Ofsted call on a training day?
Let us know as soon as you can and we’ll cancel the training day (no charge) and be in touch a little while after they have gone (good luck!).

What if I have a question you haven’t answered?

If you have any questions about your training not covered here or in your booking confirmation e-mail please get in touch with your trainer.

We really don’t like charging schools cancellation fees so we want to be transparent and make you aware that cancellation charges will apply from 2 weeks before your training date (not including the date itself).
